In 1966 Lotus did something no other British manufacturer had the nerve to do: it put the engine behind the driver and sold the result to the public. The Europa was not a homologation special or a limited run for the committed. It was a road car - light, low, aerodynamically obsessive to the point of eccentricity, and utterly uncompromised by the conventions of the day. Six decades on, it remains one of the purest expressions of the Chapman method that Hethel ever committed to production, and 2026 is its sixtieth anniversary.
