If the story on the preceding pages is that Hethel survives, then this one is its bookend: the place Lotus came from has survived too.

There is a neatness to the timing that nobody planned. In the same summer that a Government minister was unveiling a plaque at Hethel and Lotus was confirming that Norfolk will build its cars into the 2030s, a few hundred people gathered in a north London park to mark the other end of the same thread - the streets where a young Colin Chapman put a body on an Austin Seven chassis and started something.
